Apprenticeships at a Glance
What will I do?
Apprenticeships last between one and four years and will enable you to pick up the skills of the job while you work. On some apprenticeships, you also spend one day a week at College.
Is this the right course?
Are you looking to start your career now? If your answer is yes, an apprenticeship may be right for you. If you prefer to learn in a working environment then it gives you the opportunity to impress your bosses with your determination and enthusiasm.
What you'll need
Entry requirements may vary, but all generally require that:
- You’re 16 or over
- You live in England and are not taking part in full-time education
- You’ll be required to be in employment for at least 30 hours per week in your chosen profession
If your apprenticeship is in a trade, including construction or hair/beauty, then you may need to come into College one day a week. We have a team who may be able to help you secure employment.
As part of your apprenticeship framework, you’ll undertake functional skills in English and maths and in some cases, ICT.
We have brought together common queries about every aspect of apprenticeships. From what an apprenticeship is to the types of apprenticeships available, find the answers to your apprenticeship questions on our Frequently Asked Questions page.
